My corporate stint with an Indian FMCG company involved staying in Madurai for two years. It was during that time that I got exposed to one of the greatest superstars of this country. I don’t think it’s fair to restrict his popularity to only Tamil film industry. It was here that I see ‘people worship’ at its best for this person. He is nothing short of a demi-god in this part of the country. His actions, mannerisms, stunts make headlines and become a cult just days after his movie releases.
Yes, I am talking of Rajnikant. I personally believe that he has high standards when it comes to providing entertainment en mass. And I really don’t think you have to know Tamil to understand and enjoy his films. His larger than life persona got steadily carved out of these action stunts. Some of his favourites prop are that he uses in his stunts are his Glares, Cigarettes, Chewing gums, Guns and Bullets. His popularity soars high because of the physics defying stunts that he performs in his movies. Listed below are some more of those stunts that his fans like me believe he is capable of doing. I think I’ve read a few of these in relation to Chuck Norris, but it’s a good list — covers most of The Thalaivar’s minor abilities
I like the infinity one. Speaking with whatever little mathematical knowledge I have, there are at least two infinities: one being the number of integers and the other being the number of real numbers. So that may be why he counted to infinity twice. The Thalaivar doesn’t like to repeat himself. Like he says in Baasha, if he says something once, it’s like saying it a hundred times.

ps: The number of real numbers is usually referred to as uncountably infinite. But that sort of pesky detail can only stop lesser mortals, not him.

Hey Ramsu, you are absolutely right. He is a complete entertainer. Although I don’t speak or understand Tamil, I make it a point to watch his movies.
